What the evidence says
For UK residents, XTB’s country guidance points to its UK site, which identifies XTB Limited and FCA reference 522157. Exness separately states that its FCA-regulated UK entity does not provide retail services. These examples show why a group’s FCA badge alone is not enough to identify the company or service available to you.

Check the service, not just the firm
The FCA Firm Checker distinguishes a firm’s authorisation from permission for the particular service. Our suggested sequence is to copy the legal name from the proposed agreement, look it up, and select the service you intend to use. A familiar brand or matching reference number should not end the check.

The FCA warns that clone firms can copy a genuine name, address or reference number. Use contact details obtained independently from the official checker or register, and compare them with the website and messages you received. This protects a different link in the chain than checking which group owns a licence.

FSCS instructs investors to check the provider, the regulated activity and confirmation of protection. It does not compensate poor investment performance. Keep any written protection statement with the entity and product it actually describes; do not transfer it to a sister company or a different account.

The FCA warns that professional classification or an overseas contract can remove retail protections. Check the actual entity, client class and whether the firm may accept new clients, rather than relying on a registration name.

Does an FCA-regulated group guarantee my account is FCA-regulated?
No. Identify the contracting entity and its permission for your service. The Exness UK retail limitation is a concrete counterexample to using the group’s badge as an account-level conclusion.
